June 23, 2012

From Wikipedia:
“The evening of June 23, St John’s Eve, is the eve of celebration before the Feast Day of st, John the babtist.”

In Denmark this evening is called Sankt Hans,  a festive evening where people meet to enjoy a big bonfire and sing together. The song which is always sung is  “Vi elsker vort land” (We love our country) text here. Usually there are a speach before the fire are lighted.

Nice series of pictures. We have the same kind of celebration (bonfire, speech, singing, music) on August 1st, our National Day. A festive evening, just like in your country.
On St-John’s eve, there is a musical night in many towns and cities. Lots of open air concerts (my first son is Jean-Baptiste, by the way:)
