Danish cream cake, Medalje
Time for a traditional Danish “flødeskumskage” – cream cake. This one is called “Medalje” /medal. Invented, as many of the other cream cakes, about 1900, when it became possible to keep the cream cold. A medal is made out of two circular plates of sweet tart dough, with pastry cream and whipped cream between. On top glazed with icing and decorated with whipped cream and fruit or as here, chocolate . I payed about 20 Danish kroner or 3,5 US dollar for this one.
